About Catharine Arakelian, BA (Hons), RSA Dip. TEFLA, M Phil (Oxon)

Catharine is taking a year long Diploma Course in Dementia Care “An Emotional Journey: Sharing the Journey with People with a Dementia” led by David Sheard and becoming an Approved Trainer with the Alzheimer's Society.

Catharine has a research degree in anthropology from the University of Oxford, a degree in drama, a teaching diploma and she is trained in Gerard Egans’ Skilled Helper model of non-directive counselling. She works and publishes as an Intercultural Educational Consultant in many sectors employing international staff.

As a mature student, Catharine's research degree (Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology) was a study of intergenerational ties in Turkish families in Hackney. This looked at mental health issues in immigrant families from the prevalence of suicide amongst teenagers to the under-reporting of depression and dementia in elders.
